It’s the time of the year again where Caldecott Hill’s artistes are lined-up and ranked against each other like a High School popularity contest. From the popular ‘it’ crowd, to the mediocre folks, and of course, the underdogs.
In the second installment of our three-part Star Awards winners' prediction stories for Caldecott Hill's glitziest event of the year, we turn to our trusty crystal ball, yet again, for some hint on the obvious shoo-ins and promising dark horses in the Top 20 Male and Female Most Popular Artistes awards at the upcoming Star Awards Show 2 this Sunday.
Judging by forces of nature, and by that we mean size of fan base and mass appeal, we easily identify the shoo-in winners of this award category. It's a no-brainer, folks. Like High School footballers and cheerleaders, these studs and princesses encompass the entire package: charming, good-looking, winning personalities... Plus we figured, a loyal following of fans completes the winning formula.
The Top 20 Most Popular Male and Female Artiste Award is a voting game driven by the masses, reinforced by 50% public surveys, and semi-ruled by a simple mechanism, the voting hotline.
Popularity always works and hard work prevails, but don't forget, there will always be the omnipresence of unexpected underdogs. What's an awards ceremony without some spice and excitement?

Our take on the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes:
On the winning pedestal: Qi Yuwu, Elvin Ng, and Dai Yangtian
Despite Yuwu's absence on local TV after his blockbuster hit-drama series in 2008, Little Nyonya, his enigmatic presence is still felt strongly amongst viewers as per his nomination in the running for Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste.
Following in Yuwu's Little Nyonya success is Elvin and Yangtian from the recent period drama, Together. It's no lie that the duo's showbiz career is on an evident upward swing after Together. Audiences were bowled over by Elvin's naïve and innocent portrayal of Tarzan and smitten with Yangtian's strongheaded Lin Xiaobei. The unstoppable duo's on a roll.
In the safe zone: Joshua Ang, Dennis Chew, Tay Ping Hui, Bryan Wong
They're not your brightest and most popular stars, but each has got their own loyal following to fall back on.
Currently seen on both 7pm and 9pm primetime slots on Ch 8, Joshua's bound to win over fangirls from his bad boy role in Your Hand In Mine, and gramps and grannies in his simpleton turn for New Beginnings. Apart from that, Dennis Chew's cross-dressing attempts and over hilarious antics as the "so embarrassing" Aunty Lucy has won over the hearts of fans from 8 to 80. That's enough to nail both Joshua and Dennis an award each.
In dangerous waters: Pornsak, Dasmond Koh, Zhang Yaodong
Both Pornsak and Dasmond each had a relatively quiet 2009, appearing in a mere handful of variety programmes. Together With Yaodong's flat performance, in the ongoing Your Hand In Mine, we reckon that their winning chances are few and far between with such intense and strong competitors.
The underdogs: Chen Hanwei, Terence Cao, Zheng Geping
They may not be your run-off-the-mill prince charming, but each of these artistes are oddly charismatic in their own ways.
The middle-aged trio scored brownie points with their hilarious antics and endearing roles from the recently-aired The Best Things In Life (Hanwei and Terence) and Together (Geping). We won't be surprised if they pull in a hat trick and rack in wins on Sunday night.

President Message
On this very special day of this wonderful fanclub aka The NUTZ, I would like to express gratitude towards every single one of you. Big thank you to those who had walked through this one year with me, I’m really grateful to all of you. I’ve started with nothing, only me and myself. But now, I got you all to support Joshua with me, every event that we attended together is filled with fun and laughter!
I really enjoy every moment we spent together. From the very first meeting where everyone was shy and kept quiet till now, everyone laugh, joke and talked about Joshua. We did boards together during his first event to let him know that we are there for him. I still remember we cut the paper in MacDonald in Ngee Ann city. When he came out, we screamed like nobody business. I still remember the emcee said that we were loud! We took photos with him and went for food after that! That day was memorable!
Remember this year, we celebrated his birthday? We went for dinner together with him at Marina Square Pasta De Waraku. We had a great time with him didn’t we? We took photos with him, we ate dinner with him, we talked to him. I still remember Jacqueline asked me the next day if she really sat beside Joshua. I laughed when she ask me that question.
We went through a lot together with a common goal which is to support Joshua and show him how much we love him. I’m sure we did it and he felt it.
Not forgetting the most recent event, Star awards 2010! I’m sure you girls enjoy yourselves right? From the way you all screamed, I know how much you girls had enjoyed yourself. Even though we did not managed to help Joshua to make it to Top 10 this year, but I know all of you had tried your best. We feel sad but we know we did our best didn’t we? And I’m sure Joshua knows it too!
Throughout this one year, we grew up together, from strangers, we became friends. And somehow, we are like a family! A family that works together towards a common goal and do things together, we are one.
Also, I would like to thank those that came in later, thanks for your support towards Joshua! I’m sure you girls were happy to see Joshua just like all of us! Please continue supporting him no matter what!
And lastly, I would really like to thank Joshua for giving me this chance to set up this fanclub for him! Thank you Joshua! If you did not give your consent to this, I’ll never have the chance to meet so many wonderful people and get to attend all your events with them. Thank you for giving me this chance to do all these for you, to irritate you for the past one year and to endure all our screaming! You never fail to thank us whenever we were there to support you. But in actual fact, we should be the one thanking you, without you, all these would not have happen. We would not have so much fun. I would really like to take this chance to thank you!
